TMJ Grinding/Bruxism

Teeth Grinding and Bruxism (Jaw Clenching) are an extremely common habit that many people do without even realizing. Some people will tend to do it when they are awake and conscious, however in a significant number of people it takes place when they are asleep and unaware of the fact they’re even doing it which is known as `Sleep Bruxism’. This can cause a significant impairment in your day to day activities.

If you are experiencing any of the below, it may be a good idea to book in with your dentist to discuss management options.

  • Headaches – Some people experience light headaches where as others may experience a more severe migraine
  • Cracked or chipped tooth enamel
  • Excessive wear & tear of the teeth
  • Jaw, joint or ear pain
  • Aching of the teeth
  • Loose teeth
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Aching or stiffness of the face, temples or jaw
  • Raised tissue on the cheeks, due to cheek biting
  • Enlargement of the masseter muscle (jaw muscles), this is however rare

If left untreated any of these symptoms can possibly cause a number of issues which could be detrimental to your dental health and overall wellbeing.
