Three are many types of teeth whitening products that are safe, but some are more effective than others. If you are unhappy with the brightness of your smile or simply want to whiten your teeth for a special event like a wedding, you may be asking yourself, “Is teeth whitening safe?”
Is Teeth Whitening Safe: Teeth Whitening is Regulated?
The Dental Board of Australia and the Therapeutic Goods Administration regulate the use of bleaching agents for teeth whitening treatments. They ensure that professional-grade teeth whitening agents are only administered by qualified professionals.
Studies have shown that the safety of teeth bleaching agents depends on the length of time the tooth is exposed to the active ingredients—the less exposure, the lower the risk. Since in-chair treatments use a higher concentration of the bleaching gel, less time is needed for the treatment to be effective, so you never have to wonder, “is teeth whitening safe?” when administered by a qualified dentist.
How Safe is Teeth Whitening When Performed By a Dentist?
If you choose to have professional teeth whitening treatment at Total Care Dental Studio, rest assured that you are in good hands. Your teeth whitening treatment is customised to your needs, and we use the latest whitening products to ensure your teeth, gums and soft tissue are not irritated by the whitening process.
Professional-grade teeth whitening agents are formulated to remove surface stains and intrinsic stains caused by enamel erosion.
Although in-chair and professional home whitening kits have a higher concentration of hydrogen peroxide, they are safer than over-the-counter products because trained dental professionals carefully monitor them.
At Total Dental Care Studio, we use Philips Zoom for both our in-chair and at-home customised teeth whitening treatments. These teeth whitening gels are pH neutral to help protect your teeth, gums and other soft tissue from irritation. They also have teeth remineralising technology to restore your tooth enamel.

In-Chair Teeth Whitening
An in-chair teeth whitening treatment is the simplest and quickest way to brighten your smile, usually in less than an hour. Once your dentist deems you a suitable candidate for teeth whitening treatment, they use a retractor to pull back your lips and expose your teeth. Your lips are protected with a special cream to prevent irritation. You will be asked to bite down on a cup placed in your mouth with the retractor, and a protective bib is placed around your face. You will also be asked to use protective eyewear.
Your dentist applies a protective solution to your gums and teeth before evenly brushing on the teeth whitening gel and activating it using ultraviolet light. After 15 minutes, the gel is rinsed off, and the process is repeated twice more to achieve a smile up to 8 shades brighter.

At-Home Teeth Whitening
Our at-home whitening kits enable you to brighten your smile at your convenience and in the comfort of your home. Your dentist takes an impression of your teeth so they can fabricate your customised whitening trays. These trays are tailored to fit your exact smile to protect your teeth and gums and achieve even results.
Once your trays are ready, your dentist provides you with the whitening gel and instructions on using it. The trays are worn for about 30-45 minutes a day. This bleaching gel isn’t as potent as the in-chair product, so it will take about 14 days to see noticeable results.
